The baby shower gift that always lands
Share
Buying for a baby who hasn't arrived yet is a guessing game. You don't know the
birth weight, the season they'll be in the size, or whether the parents have
strong feelings about colour. Here's how to remove all three unknowns.
Skip newborn sizes
Everyone buys newborn. New parents end up with a drawer of it, half of which is
outgrown in weeks — sometimes never worn at all.
Give 6-12M or 12-18M instead. It's the size they'll reach for when the
gifts have run dry, and it's the one nobody else thinks to buy.
Choose a fabric that flatters the gift
A gift is judged in the first three seconds, by hand. Bamboo does that work for
you — it feels considerably more expensive than it is, which is why it's our
most-gifted category.
Give the size nobody else buys, in the fabric everyone notices.
Neutrals over themes
You don't know the nursery. A grown-up neutral print sits alongside whatever
the parents have chosen; a strongly themed one competes with it. Neutrals also
photograph well, which matters more than it should — those first photos get
looked at for years.
Make it a set
One romper is a nice gift. A romper with a matching bow, or a two-piece with a
swaddle in the same print, is a *considered* one — and it costs surprisingly
little more. Our Pair with suggestions on each product page are built exactly
for this.
If you want to be the gift they remember
Buy two sizes of the same print — one for now, one for six months' time. The
second one arrives exactly when they've run out of things that fit, and they
will remember who sent it.
